Day Hiking Packing List
Day hikes are fantastic short-term trips for you to get out and touch some grass or hug some trees. This list of items is fairly comprehensive, and some are for specific types of conditions. When creating a trip from this list, you can remove or add your own items.
Some considerations
- I use the All Trails app on my phone, so I always download trail maps ahead of time. Bring paper maps if you prefer.
- Something to sit on is great if everything around you is a rock, so I pack this tiny pad.
- If there’s no water available on your (deserts for example), carry double the water you think you need. Otherwise, bring a water filter (lake hikes for example)
- Some of these items are lightweight versions of things in the ten essentials list, such as an emergency blanket for shelter, or wet matches.
