Camping Packing List
This list is for camping where you park close to your site, so you can bring a few more comforts than you could carry on your back. If you’re hiking in to your campsite, check out the Backpacking list instead. When you create a trip from this list, you can remove or add your own items.
Some considerations
- Check for fire restrictions before you go. Buy firewood locally to avoid spreading pests.
- Store food and scented items in a bear box, canister, or your locked car, depending on the rules of where you’re camping.
- Check the overnight temperatures and make sure your sleeping bag will be warm enough.
- Remember that air mattresses don’t provide warmth and can make you feel colder. An insulated sleeping pad is better.
- If you need a camping pillow, I love this NEMO Fillo and have used it for years. It has a memory foam top that makes it way more comfortable than other blow up pillows. My son uses this Rumpl pillow that he puts his jacket in for stuffing.
- Follow Leave No Trace principles and pack out all your trash.
- Pack a headlamp for each person, plus a lantern for the campsite.
