Backpacking Packing List
There are so many options with backpacking that it’s hard to recommend specific items. Ultralighters need different options from Scouts. The list below contains generic items for any backpacking trip, including the ten essentials, and when you create a trip from this list, you can remove or add your own items.
A couple of clarifications:
- The WAG BAG is a specific item that helps with Leave No Trace and other backpackers will appreciate it.
- MSR makes some really lightweight tent stakes, although a bit pricey.
- If you’re backpacking in back-country or alone, a satellite messenger could save your life.
- The Tyvek sheet is waterproof and can keep your sleeping pad dry if you’re on the ground. Wash it in your washing machine a few times to make it soft.
